The Missouri Inline Hockey Association (MOIHA) has been serving public and private schools in the state of Missouri since 1997.
In 1997, 18 high school inline hockey teams took the floor in a fall league to test the concept of an inline hockey league for the greater St. Louis metropolitan area. The fall season went well and in the spring of 1998 a full season took place beginning in March and ending in June. The league continued to grow and mature each year and is now the leader in high school and junior high roller hockey. Many years ago we implemented a tiering system that has enabled a better mix of equally talented teams. We continue to strive for the best and make adjustments based on that goal.
Nearly 30 schools are members of the league, with a total of 97 teams and around 1,000 student-athletes participated in the 2024 MOIHA season.
MOIHA exists to provide competitive, equitable and uniform opportunities for high school and junior high school students to learn valuable lessons through participation in roller hockey. MOIHA strives to be the best high school and junior high league in the United States, by allowing student-athletes to compete with the school in which they are enrolled. If a student-athlete is attending a school that is not a member of MOIHA, those student-athletes may enter the “player draft” and be put on a team in need of additional players.
We believe that…
• Participation in school activity programs such as roller hockey is a privilege and not a right.
• Sportsmanship needs to have a constant presence in all school-based activity programs.
• Students should have an equal opportunity to participate in all activities offered by their school.
• Ethical behavior, dignity and respect are non-negotiable.
• Academic priorities must come before participation in athletic activities.
• Positive role models and an active involvement in a student's life by parents and others are critical to student success.
• High school activity programs are designed for student participants, and adults must serve in a supportive role.
• The success of the team is more important than individual honors.
• Compliance with school, community and league rules is essential for all activity participants.
MOIHA takes pride in the discipline, structure and passion needed to produce a successful league. Our league will strive to help communicate and incorporate these same characteristics into the framework of the league, stressing the concept of an honest work ethic combined with a team-first attitude. Roller hockey is a sport involving unselfish sacrifices and high level passion and when combined with the passion of high school and junior high school athletics, we feel this is the perfect match for MOIHA and the participating schools.
